Bevois Town 164Workshops

Our popular Key Stage 2 workshops have something to offer every class. This year we have added brand new sessions to cater for the changing curriculum. All sessions are offered at £75 and last an hour. Click on each arrow below for more information about the workshop.

Henry VIII & Elizabeth I’s Feasts & Festivities

Henry VIIIThe 1912 guidebook for Tudor House made the (probably false) claim that Henry VIII visited the house with his wife Anne Boleyn. In honour of this story we have put together this fun and hands-on session based around the Tudors. Choose your focus between Henry VIII or Elizabeth I.

Activities include handling real Tudor objects, exploring which foods were eaten by rich and poor people and the session also includes a chance to try out an authentic Tudor dance routine!

Tudor Plagues & Potions

Plague DoctorHave you ever wondered how the Tudors treated baldness? Or why they thought toenails could ward off evil? Find out the answers to those questions and many more in this workshop exploring the incredible and bizarre world of Tudor medicine!

Meet a Tudor plague doctor, create your very own cure for the plague and handle some of our real Tudor objects.

Southampton Through Time

BargateSouthampton’s rich history goes back more than 2000 years. This session explores the people that have called the town home and charts the Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Medieval stories through a range of hands-on activities and tasks.
Activities include building your own Roman hypocaust system and our Archaeology Mini-Dig unearthing objects from the past.

Blitz: The Bombers Are Coming

WWIISouthampton was devastated during the Second World War when bombs rained down on the town and 42,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed. This session explores the story of the Southampton Blitz in an accessible, immersive and engaging way.

Plan for a gas attack or air raid, handle items used during the War and explore the depths of the house in our air raid shelter experience.

Note: this session normally includes a simulated air raid drill visiting the cellar of the museum not normally open to the public. The route involves stairs and uneven floors that are not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. Please bring torches.
