Session

Description

Foes and Fortifications- A Medieval World

Medieval Southampton

Explore the stories of medieval Southampton in this interactive session focussing on the defences of the town. Handle genuine medieval artefacts, fire a working trebuchet, find out about the power and prestige of the Longbow and have a go at planning your own medieval defences!

Great to combine with our Walk the Walls tour!

Life and Death in Tudor Times

Tudor Rose

The 1912 guidebook for Tudor House made the (probably false) claim that Henry VIII visited the house with his wife Anne Boleyn. In honour of this story we have put together this fun and hands-on session based around the Tudors.

Using real Tudor artefacts and replicas explore what different aspects of life was like, including food and drink, medicine and warfare.

Let us know if there is a particular area that you are studying and we’ll cater your session to that angle.

Blitz in Southampton

WWII

Southampton was devastated during the Second World War when bombs rained down on the town and 42,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed. This session explores the story of the Southampton Blitz in an accessible, immersive and engaging way.

Plan for a gas attack or air raid, handle items used during the War and explore the depths of the house in our air raid shelter experience.

Note: this session normally includes a simulated air raid drill visiting the cellar of the museum not normally open to the public. The route involves stairs and uneven floors that are not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. Please bring torches.
