Southampton has long been one of the UK’s major sea ports and, fittingly, also has a wealth of history waiting to be discovered by both visitors to the city and also local residents. Helpfully Southampton is served by a team of dedicated tour guides offering walking tours of the old town throughout the year. Details of some of their tours can be found below.

Mayflower 400 Southampton is an interesting and informative 90minute walking tour of the old town of Southampton visiting places and locations which would have been recognised by the Pilgrim Fathers and the settler passengers before they embarked for the New World on the Mayflower and the Speedwell.
The Settlers and Pilgrims arrived at Southampton in July 1620 where they provisioned both ships during the two weeks they were waiting for repairs to the Speedwell to be completed.
This walk is run by See Southampton, and includes optional entry to Tudor House, including a 20% discount on standard admission – find out more.
Guided tours of Southampton’s historic old town take place every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday throughout the year. The 90 minute tours of the old Norman town include the gates, walls and unique medieval vaults. They commence at the south side of the Bargate near the entrance to the Bargate Shopping Centre at 11.00am.
In August the walks take place every Sunday at 11.00am, and there are also specialist walks every morning from Monday through Saturday, also at 11.00am, with a different focus each day:

Tuesday: Perils and Plots
Wednesday: Southampton’s Vaults (a selection)
Thursday: Jane Austen’s Southampton and the Spa Period
Friday: Medieval Churches and the Friary
Saturday: The Titanic Trail
Sunday: Western Walls and Vaults
In September the walks are on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11.00am. In October, November and December, they take place every Sunday at 11.00am.
