Mayflower 400 walk with See Southampton

Mayflower 400 Southampton is an interesting and informative 90minute walking tour of the old town of Southampton visiting places and locations which would have been recognised by the Pilgrim Fathers and the settler passengers before they embarked for the New World on the Mayflower and the Speedwell.

The Settlers and Pilgrims arrived at Southampton in July 1620 where they provisioned both ships during the two weeks they were waiting for repairs to the Speedwell to be completed.

This walk is run by See Southampton, and includes optional entry to Tudor House, including a 20% discount on standard admission – find out more.

Heritage Walks

Guided tours of Southampton’s historic old town take place every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday throughout the year. The 90 minute tours of the old Norman town include the gates, walls and unique medieval vaults. They commence at the south side of the Bargate near the entrance to the Bargate Shopping Centre at 11.00am.

In August the walks take place every Sunday at 11.00am, and there are also specialist walks every morning from Monday through Saturday, also at 11.00am, with a different focus each day:

Monday: Southampton During World War 2
Tuesday: Perils and Plots
Wednesday: Southampton’s Vaults (a selection)
Thursday: Jane Austen’s Southampton and the Spa Period
Friday: Medieval Churches and the Friary
Saturday: The Titanic Trail
Sunday: Western Walls and Vaults

In September the walks are on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11.00am. In October, November and December, they take place every Sunday at 11.00am.

Currently, the cost of the walking tours is £3.00 (accompanied children and young people under 16 go free). Tickets can be obtained at the beginning of the tour from your guide – cash or cheque (with bankers card) only, please.

Special theme walks, and tours for groups, and people with disabilities including visually impaired people, can be arranged on request. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of more than eight people must contact the Booking Secretary during office hours on 023 8057 1858 to make a private booking, for which there is also a charge.
